Precious Promises

There are some verses in the Bible that stand out with such love they bring immediate comfort to our hearts. Take this one to a war-weary people. First God speaks… “The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness, even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.” Then Israel speaks, “The LORD appeared to me long ago, saying, ‘Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love: therefore, with lovingkindness have I drawn you” (Jeremiah 31:2,3).
Often when we’re the weariest, spent, and at the end of ourselves, is when the precious promises of God shine in all their brilliance. Sometimes, there’s truths we know with our heads, but then we experience them. Annie Johnson Flint understood this when she wrote…
“He gives us more grace when the burdens grow greater, He sends us more strength when the labors increase; to added affliction He adds His great mercy; to multiplied trials His multiplied peace. His love has no limit, His grace has no measure, His power has no boundary known unto men – for out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He gives us, and gives us, and gives us again.”
Her second verse reads, “When we have exhausted our store of endurance, when our strength has failed before the day is half done, when we reach the end of our hoarded resources, our Father’s full giving has only begun.”
Dear Believer, the love that called you by the Cross, is the love that will see you through. Long ago He gave the promise because He knew you would make it by His power. Yes, He has loved you with an everlasting love.
