Lasting Peace

There can be no true and lasting peace without righteousness. All else is a façade, for “the wicked speak peace to their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts” (Psalm 28:3).

Seventy-seven years ago today, Israel declared sovereignty and became a nation, and their neighbors have been trying to destroy them ever since. We’ve watched the vain attempts of politicians to make peace, through bribery or power, and it has failed every time. Although the words of their enemies were “smoother than butter, war was in their hearts.” Only Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, will secure lasting peace through righteousness.

Peace in the human heart begins with forgiveness of sins through the Cross of Christ… “Therefore, being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1). Only then is the heart transformed to love their fellow man…

“We know that we have passed from death into life, because we love the brethren. The one who does not love his fellow man abides in death, for whoever hates his brother is a murderer: and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him” (1 John 3:14,15).

Only Jesus, the Prince of Peace, will bring a sure and lasting peace to this world, because He will judge it in righteousness first. We’re watching Bible prophecy unfold before our eyes but our hearts rest in the assurance of Christ’s return and reign…  “He shall speak peace to the Nations.”

Come, Lord Jesus.
