“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart” (Psalm 37:4).

This verse was given in the context of watching evil around us. “Fret not (do not become anxious and angry) because of evildoers, neither be envious at the workers of lawlessness. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and in faithfulness you shall be fed.”

Delighting in the Lord is a choice of priorities each day. God doesn’t want us to hide our heads in the sand from the evil around us. We need to be alert so we can pray and be relevant. But if we focus on the evil, as if it’s more powerful than the Lord, we’ll become a discouragement to those around us, rather than a blessing. To focus on the Lord exalts His power, His promises, and His nearness. He has promised: evil has an end.

Delighting in the Lord brings rest to our hearts… “Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him: fret not yourself (do not become angry and anxious) because of him who prospers in his way, because of the one who brings wicked plans to pass. Cease from anger and forsake wrath: fret not yourself in any way to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but they who wait upon the Lord shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while and the wicked shall not be."

Our daily joy is Christ and His return is sure: “The Lord shall help them and rescue them. He shall deliver them from the wicked and save them, because they trust in Him” (Psalm 37:40).
