Truth Demands A Response

We live in a precarious time. People, colleges, online group chats… they all say they are seeking truth, but get hostile when truth is delivered. Strong retorts are made… “That’s YOUR truth, not MY truth,” as though there is no absolute truth. Or worse yet, they claim the holy high ground and claim you are unloving, unkind, and unrighteous to hold to such truth. The great deceiver is busy leading many away from God.
Nothing has changed from biblical times. Jesus spoke truth and He was hated, maligned and crucified. Are we prepared for this push back? Is truth worth it? It must be! John 3:16 paints for us a loving “God that loves the world so much that He gave His only Son to die for our sins, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
But only two verses later this same loving God says that “Whoever doesn’t believe in Him is condemned already.” Notice the complete absence of subjection in this message. There is no room for my own interpretation of God’s Word. God’s words of truth have strict standards.
The world loves to promote a Jesus that loves everybody, but has no standards to living. Thus, “Easy believism” is very popular because it costs nothing. There is no cross to have to bear each day and no absolute truth to have to uphold.
The Apostle Paul told us to “Preach the Word; be prepared whether it’s convenient or not, (received or not)…” but then goes on to warn us in the next verse that, “A day is coming when people will no longer put up with sound doctrine (truth) and teaching” (2 Timothy 4:2,3).
Friends, one of our greatest signs that we are children of God is to speak truth. Not rudely, but boldly, because lives are depending on someone to share the truth.
Let that be us!
