The Truth Will Set You Free

What does it mean to be “set free” when we still live in a world of constant lies and deceptions? It’s like the slave who had received the gospel message and now his whole mind was set free to love God, commune with God, and he would even sing unto Him as he worked… but he was still a slave.
We are free from the power of sin, guilt and shame and we no longer dread the eternal consequences of our sin… we are eternally free! But we are surrounded by the evils of sin and its power to destroy is evident all around us. We can’t help but feel its suffocating presence. But… we are truly free! This kind of freedom has nothing to do with our emotional comfort or our daily circumstances. It is far beyond the temporal.
But the deceiver has told our world a lie that has been received far and wide… “Your comfort level and overall feelings will set you free, therefore make them your highest goal.” Colleges endorse this with their coined phrase when truth is spoken, “Your words make me feel unsafe.” Truth has been replaced by comfort. Society has lost its ability to have civil discourse and exchange of thought.
How do we navigate the Gospel in this environment? It must start with their identity; “They are made in the image of God.” This truth shows dignity, worth and purpose in life. Next is their gender; “He made them male and female.” If a person knows they are made who they are on purpose with a plan, so much confusion is dissolved. Thirdly, the fact must be shared that “We are all sinners who have gone our own way.” God so desired to bring us back unto Himself that He died for our sins. By receiving His free gift of salvation, we can have peace with God, eternity in Heaven with Him and joy that never leaves us, even in trials.
May we be bold to share Jesus and His ability to save us IN SPITE of our godless surroundings. Only then, will those that are bound by modern lies, hiding in the confines of their fragile feelings, find True freedom.
