“Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the Light: who has rescued us from the authority of darkness and has transferred us into the Kingdom of the Son of His love: in whom we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:12-14).

Redemption never leaves a person where they were. Can you imagine Israel remaining in Egypt as impoverished slaves while claiming to be redeemed by the blood of the Lamb? This same spiritual truth is true of all who trust Christ today. First, by forgiving our sins, and giving us His righteous nature, Jesus “qualified us” to share eternity with the heroes of the faith.  His perfections have been applied to our account, qualifying us for the eternal inheritance to come.

The second result is that sin no longer has authority over us.  God says… “Count yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive to God through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:11). God has “rescued us” from the deceptions, temptations, and intimidations of darkness. His Spirit gives us power, and His Word is our Authority.

Thirdly, the moment we placed our faith in Christ, God “transferred us” into His Kingdom. Our names are registered in the Lamb’s Book of Life making us citizens of Heaven, awaiting removal before God’s judgment on this evil world. How secure we are in Christ! Qualified, rescued, transferred – what Good News we have to share.

“Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!

Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb,

Redeemed by His infinite mercy,

His child – and forever – I am.”
