The Promise Of Spring

Today is the first official day of Spring. We’re all ready for warmth, greenery, and beauty, and for the cold days of winter to be over. This is true spiritually as well. God’s people are longing for Spring.

It was during winter in Jerusalem when Jesus gave the promise of Eternal Life.  Some doubters surrounded Him and said, “How long will you hold us in suspense?  If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly!”

Jesus said, “I told you, but you did not believe. The miracles I do in My Father’s name bear witness of Me … My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall anyone pluck them out of My hand” (John 10:25-28).

Eternal life! The long-awaited Spring where miracles burst forth as the norm, the lion nestles a lamb, the bear and the calf feed together; where Jesus is King, everything is right, and nothing evil or deadly can enter in. Jesus’ resurrection proved the power and truth of His words, and He encourages us to, “Set your mind on things Above, not on things of the earth” (Colossians 3:2).

We are about to hear that long-awaited Voice, “Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; the flowers appear on the earth, the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree is putting forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, My love, My fair one, and come away” (Song of Solomon 2:10-13).

Not long now.
