The Mindset of "Nothing"

Sitting in a prison cell sounds like a defeat – but not in the hands of Jesus. From his cell, Paul gave us four encouragements for overcoming this world.

The first is… “In nothing will I be ashamed, but with all boldness as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death” (Philippians 1:20).  That’s a great prayer for us today. Pray for Christ to be magnified in all your circumstances. This intentional mindset changes everything.

Next, he said, “In nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident sign of their coming destruction, but of your salvation from God” (Phil. 1:28). Confidence in Christ’s return to judge evil, brings a strength found only through knowing the Scriptures of things to come. Learn prophecy and stand firm.

Thirdly, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves” (Phil. 2:3). This encouragement keeps the world’s mindset out of our Church family.  When we thank God for what He is doing in other’s lives – appreciating their gifts, their growth, and fellowship, it’ a sweet reprieve in our narcissistic world, and a taste of joys to come.

Lastly, “Be anxious for nothing; but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7,8).  Prayer brings peace. In a world that lacks it, prayer is our God-given avenue to a peace this world knows nothing of. Never miss your daily prayer time and receive what God promises to give to those who pray.

This is faith that overcomes the world. Maranatha.
