The Divine Blossom

When Israel walked through the wilderness, envious men grumbled against the leadership of Moses and Aaron. So God told each of the twelve tribes to bring a staff to the Tabernacle. Whichever rod budded in the night was the tribe He had chosen… “On the morrow, Moses went into the Tabernacle, and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi had budded, blossomed, and yielded almonds.” – (Numbers 17:8)
How miraculous that a dead, dry stick, cut off from stalk and root, would show an unseen life-source far beyond any capability found on earth. God had spoken, the tribe of Levi had been chosen, there was no doubt and no debate. The miracle was there for all to see.
Aaron’s rod foreshadowed the resurrection of Christ… “There shall come forth a Rod out of the stem of Jesse…” – (Isaiah 11;1). Despite being “cut off”, He lives! It was impossible for death to hold Him, for hatred to suppress Him, for lies to defeat Him, and for evil to usurp Him. “Him (and Him alone) God has exalted to be our Prince and Savior.”
This resurrection picture also applies to Israel… “When you see the fig-tree shoot forth, know the Kingdom of God is near.” Israel’s blossoming to national life, apart from all human attempts to destroy her, is earth’s guarantee of Christ’s coming Kingdom. Israel (as the Church) has a Life-source not found on earth, but in Christ the Lord.
However, there is an ungodly blossom the Lord wants us to watch for… “When the wicked spring as the grass, and when ALL the workers of iniquity flourish, it is only that they shall be destroyed forever… but the righteous shall flourish like the palm tree.” – (Psalm 92:7,12). We’re here.
And our hearts shall rejoice. Maranatha.
