Under The Blood

“And the blood shall be to you for a sign upon the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt” (Exodus 12:13).
When the Israelites applied the blood of the Lamb to their doorways, they understood the “sign” was for God, not for their enemies or neighbors, but for the Lord. When He saw the blood of the spotless Lamb on their houses, He “would not allow the destroyer to come into your house to smite you” (Exodus 12:23).
Notice what the Lord didn’t say? “When I see your list of good works, I’ll pass over” … “When I see your sincerity and good intentions,” or, “When I see your Church affiliation…” Only when He saw blood of a spotless substitute, death “passed over”.
The Israelites were saved on Credit that first Passover. The blood foreshadowed Christ, the Lamb of God. Their households were under the protection of One who would yet die in their place. And He did, April 3, 33 AD, as the Passover Lamb for the world… “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).
Since the Cross we are saved on Debit, for done is the work that saves! And all who trust Christ are saved from the Judgment soon to come upon this world. Each year we “celebrate the Feast,” in secure anticipation, until He returns, for “As often as you eat this bread and drink this cup you are proclaiming the Lord’s death…
UNTIL He comes.” Maranatha!
