Search Me, Oh God

To grow in our Christian walk takes a willing heart, one that sees its own need to grow and mature more into His likeness. This process is humbling and exposing. But the psalmist, David, was willing to pray this honest prayer… “Search me, Oh God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts, and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23,24).
Very few people really want to see a spiritual report card, but how else can we grow unless God shows us where we’re weak? As the return of Christ grows nearer, we want to set our hearts on goals that have eternal value. The most important goal is to grow as Children of God. Let us pray as David did - and mean it! May we humbly desire to shed the cocoon of our old lives, asking God to help us grow wings of new life.
We are not the only one who will benefit. Our family and friends will find a much kinder, sincere person, who truly loves and cares for others before ourselves. Our work ethic will reflect that we work “as unto the Lord” and not men. We will speak less and listen more; seek blessing over riches; choose understanding over argument. The list goes on...
Oh God, may You do a great work, in and through us, as we prepare for Your return. Help us to grow in grace, we pray. Amen.
