Jacob, speaking of Jesus and passing on the blessings of salvation to his sons before he died, reminded them that Joseph had overcome by “the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob, from which comes the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel” (Genesis 49:24).

Moses, having just finished their 40-year wilderness journey and standing on the borders of the Promised Land, called the Lord, “The Rock of Salvation.”  Hannah, delivered from barrenness and the cruel mockery of her enemy, said, “There is no Rock like our God!” David, once an unknown shepherd boy, but having become a giant slayer who later reigned as an undefeated king, called the Lord, the “Rock of my strength.”

Daniel, looking ahead to the defeat of the idolatrous empires of the United Nations of our time, called Jesus, “The Stone” from Heaven. Isaiah, pointing his generation to Christ’s death and resurrection, called Him the “Foundation Stone, a Tested Stone, a Precious Cornerstone, a Sure Foundation.

Every single person, who turns from the sins of this world to trust in Christ, can add their names to the list of those who testify of His power to save, faithfulness to see us through, and provider of strength – “He alone is my Rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the Rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times!” (Psalm 62:6-8).

Let the earth shake, we shall not be moved.
