His Power Toward Us

“I pray… that the eyes of your understanding may be enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what is the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, which He worked in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead…” (Ephesians 1:18-20).
There is no greater truth for the Believer than “Christ lives in me.” This is the power of Christianity which could not have been possible without the Cross and the Holy Spirit. The Cross provides for our forgiveness and cleansing, making us clean vessels for the Spirit to fill with righteousness. This new nature enables us to walk in fellowship (personal relationship) with the Father and the Son (1 John 1:3), and gives us Christ’s “resurrection power” to overcome this world.
Like the Israelites of old leaving Egypt, we leave our old lives of slavery to sin behind – sin has no dominion over us any longer. Death can’t hold us, the devil can’t have us, no enemy can defeat us… “we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Though our bodies grow old and experience weakness, our inner person is renewed day by day. There is a resurrection power within us that cannot be overthrown… Christ living in me.
Now we have hope for today to overcome every trial, riches of glory to come, and the exceeding greatness of His power through this life until He meets us in the air. How vital to grasp this great truth! An old hymn expresses it well… “Christ liveth in me! Christ liveth in me! O, what a salvation this! Christ liveth in me!”
