He Knows The Way

“And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people panic when they see war, and return to Egypt.  So God led the people around, through the way of the wilderness of the Red Sea” (Exodus 13:17).

As Israel left Egypt in the early morning hours, they had no idea what the journey ahead would be like. If left to their own wisdom, they would most likely have taken the nearest highway leading them right into a war.  They would never have taken the way to the Red Sea. But the Lord knew the way.

What a comfort this is to us today.  As we go through unprecedented trials and wonder what on earth the future looks like from here, we can rest in the leadership of the One whose very name is “The Way.”  He knows every road that could be taken, and He knows every danger around the corner.  Just as He led Israel into the place where they would be the safest, He also led them into the place where they would be utterly dependent upon Him - to learn that He is All they would ever need.

If this time of year teaches us anything, it is that the One who loved us so deeply to be our Passover Lamb, is worthy of our deepest trust in the days ahead…

He’s leading me, O blessed thought!

O words with Heavenly comfort fraught,

Whatever I do, wherever I be,

Still ‘tis God’s hand that’s leading me!

He’s leading me, He’s leading me!

By His own hand, He’s leading me,

His faithful follower I would be,

For by His hand, He’s leading me.
