His Counsel Stands

“Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly… but his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in His law he meditates day and night. And he shall be like a tree (trans)planted by the rivers of water, who brings forth fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper” (Psalm 1:1-3).

Why do people “delight” in the law of the Lord? Because they see the character of God revealed. They see His goodness, justice, fairness, and compassion. They see His loving plans, and promise to save humanity, through the righteous reign of the promised Messiah… “the glory of God revealed in the face of Jesus Christ.” The Bible reveals a future that is greater than anything our minds could dream of or comprehend in Christ.

It is the “counsel” of the Lord that will stand forever, and it is the Lord who will bring the “counsel” of the nations to nothing. To stand with Jesus Christ against the perversity in our nations is not going to remove us, it is what stabilizes us. That “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” to graft us to Himself through the work of the Cross, is both the miracle and gift of the ages. Our life and strength is in Him.

Those who choose counsel outside of God’s Word will never stand the test of time. They have chosen to listen to the father of lies and rejected truth… “They perish because they refused to receive the love of the Truth that they might be saved” (2 Thessalonians 2:10). They will be as the chaff which the wind drives away. But the transplanted life in Christ has a Source of Living Water that will never run dry. We can know fruitfulness, despite a corrupt generation, and know that we have an “everlasting foundation” in the glories to come.

These days are days of choosing sides for eternity – the father of lies, or the counsel of God. Never be ashamed to stand on His Word. Not only will you survive the lies, you will thrive. It's His guarantee.
