Time Is Slipping

It’s true that we have been in the ‘last days’ since Jesus walked this earth… “God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in times past to the forefathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son” (Hebrews 1:1,2)

On God’s 7000-year calendar’ the last 2000 years have been the Age of Grace. The next event is the Rapture, which kicks off the 7-year Tribulation period, then the 1000-year reign of Christ, called the Millennium, will be ushered in.  

Since these are the 'last days,' the Bible urges people to awaken to the times we’re in... "Therefore, we ought to give the more earnest attention to the things we have heard, lest at any time we let them slip by” (Hebrews 1:1,2;2:1).

To ‘Slip by’ is a picture of missing the boat. Not long ago, a cruise ship docked at a certain port for passengers to shop and sightsee. Some got so caught up in shopping, they failed to notice the time. To their horror, the blast of the ships horn signaled they were too late. They ran to the docks only to see the ship gliding out to sea. This is the picture the Lord gives of those ‘neglecting’ to answer the call of salvation.

Not only are we in the last days, but we’re also in the last hours. And last hours become last seconds. Jesus urged readiness many times, so it’s not fearmongering (as some claim), but loving concern and joyful anticipation that compels Christians to urge people to be ready for Christ’s return.

And for those waiting the dawn of a glorious new day, it does the heart good to be reminded, “The night is far spent, the day is at hand.”
