Truth & Certainty

“Thou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor” (Exodus 20:16).

Lies come naturally from the human heart. Most people have no problem with lying - as long as nobody lies to them. This proves the point of “loving your neighbor as yourself.” If you don’t want to be lied to, don’t lie to others.

God says lies are a form of hatred… “A lying tongue hates those who are afflicted by it.”  Conversely, lips of truth are a sign of love. Jesus, being “The Truth,” always spoke the truth in love.  Therefore, it’s a sign of salvation to love the truth… “You have put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore, putting away lying, speak each person truth with his neighbor: for we are members of one another” (Ephesians 4:25).

The Bible says it’s also a sign of the end when both leaders and society lie with impunity, not caring that God "requires truth in the inward parts.” Lies are an abomination to Him (Proverbs 6:17). The devil is the father of lies. God has forewarned that like the devil, “All liars shall have their part in the Lake of Fire.”  

Isaiah describes the world before Christ’s return… “Legal rights are turned backwards, justice stands far off (always delayed): for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. Yes, truth fails, and the one who departs from evil only makes himself a prey: and the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him…” (Isaiah 59:14,15). We’re living these words today.

It’s wonderful to know Jesus is also named, ‘The Amen’ which means “Truth with Certainty.” We can rejoice, for "He is coming soon to judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth” (Psalm 96:13).  Hallelujah.
