“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in season; whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper…

The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore, the ungodly shall not stand in the Judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.  For the Lord knows the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish” (Psalm 1).

This Psalm reveals the moral decline that we’re watching today.  People abandon God’s Word to “walk” in the advice of an ungodly world. Then it slows to a “stand,” until finally, we see them “seated” among the mockers.

When the Bible speaks of “the way of the Righteous,” Jesus is the only Righteous One who ever lived.  He came in love to gift His life and righteous standing to us. Repentance is God’s equal-opportunity-for-all to forsake the “road of the ungodly,” ending in destruction, to choose by faith the “way of Christ,” ending in eternal joys.

Remember, God is not willing for anyone to perish but that all should come to repentance.  The ungodly perish because “they refused to receive the love of the Truth that they might be saved” (2 Thessalonians 2:10).  That Truth was proven at Calvary’s cross.

There are only two roads in this life. Only through Christ, and walking in His counsel today, will we be found standing when this life is over.

“Oh, the love that drew Salvation’s plan,

Oh, the grace that brought it down to man,

Oh, the mighty gulf that God did span,

At Calvary.”
