The Prophet Of The Highest

“And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest: for you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways; to give knowledge of salvation unto His people by the remission of their sins, through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the Dayspring from on high has visited us; to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:76-79).
It was John the Baptist who was called “the prophet of the Highest.” Many false religions claim their leaders are the “final prophet” but there was only one “prophet of the Highest” and the Bible points him out.
A true prophet speaks truth. John the Baptist rightly introduced Jesus as “The only begotten Son of God” and “The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” He exalted Him as “God come in the flesh,” and called people to prepare to receive Christ as Lord.
Jesus closed the debate about prophets, calling John the Baptist the last prophet before His Kingdom comes, making it clear there have been no others (Matthew 11:13). And the question remains today to our world, “Are you prepared to meet Jesus as God?” Jesus’ first coming was to save the world through His payment for our sins on the cross, but His return will be to judge it in righteousness, after rescuing His own.
May we be diligent, like John, to call those around us to prepare to meet the Lord.
