The Promise Of Life

“Honor your father and your mother: that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God gives you” (Exodus 20:12).

This command is under assault in our day. Our children and grandchildren are hearing many voices calling them to defy parental authority, despise protective love, and ridicule godly wisdom, as if a better life awaits them. But even children can make right choices and choose to honor Christ, if we give them the end view of how this generation ends, and what God has in store for those who trust Him.

Proverbs describes a generation of ‘children of disobedience’… “There is a generation that curses their father and does not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in the own eyes and yet are not washed from their own excrement. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up (with pride). There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth and the needy from among men” (Proverbs 30:10-14).

Four verses later, the Bible reveals how it ends… “The eye that mocks his father, and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it” (Proverbs 30:17). This is more than just a descriptive warning; it’s the Armageddon scenario. For the same entity driving this generation of children to defy parental authority, produces a global defiance against God that ends at Armageddon.

But, after Armageddon, begins the Millennial reign of Christ. He will rule and reign 1000-years, in joys and wonders of which this world has never known, before ushering in the new heavens and earth forever. Our children can’t get “longer life” or a better life, than that.
