The Last Generation

When God rescued the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, the Bible says, “And their cry came up to God because of their bondage. And God heard their groaning…” (Exodus 2:23,24). God sent a deliverer, named Moses, who led them out and we still celebrate that event to this day.
But the Bible talks of an even greater day, when our Deliverer, returns to rescue us from this evil world. Psalm 102 was written for the “last generation” before His return…
“You shall arise and have mercy upon Zion, for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, is come. For Your servants take pleasure in her stones and favor the dust (of the Wall, since they have no access to the mount). So the nations shall fear the name of the Lord and all the kings of the earth Your glory. When the LORD shall build up Zion, He shall appear in His glory. He will regard the prayer of the destitute and not despise their prayer. This shall be written for the last generation… for the Lord looked down from the height of His sanctuary, from Heaven did the Lord behold the earth; to hear the groaning of the prisoner, and to release those appointed to death.”
Jesus said the generation that sees the “fig tree (Israel), and all other trees (surrounding nations)” blossom, will be the generation that sees His return. And the glory of the Cross and resurrection of our Savior is that we have a Deliverer… “who (first) gave Himself for our sins, that He might rescue us from this present evil world” (Galatians 1:4).
May the realization of where we are in time, and the nearness of Christ’s return, cause weary heads to lift, and feeble knees to strengthen, because our Redemption is drawing near.
