The Joy Of Prophecy

As another Passover season approaches, it’s powerful to see in the Scriptures how many times the word “fulfilled” is used of Christ. For His sufferings alone, there are over 15 clear prophecies written hundreds of years prior.

Jesus would… be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver… by a man who ate bread with Him as a friend… The blood-money would buy a potter’s field… Jesus would make a New Covenant in His blood… was hated without a cause… would die on a Roman cross…  His disciples would be scattered at His arrest... Soldiers pierced His hands and feet… He would be mocked on the Cross… crucified between two thieves… soldiers cast lots for His clothing…  not one of His bones would be broken… they would give Him vinegar to mock His thirst in death… His tomb would be provided by a rich man.

No one could manipulate these prophecies. These are only a few of the hundreds of prophecies surrounding Jesus’ birth, life, death, and return. And here lies a great truth about Prophecy… “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Revelation 19:10). There is much today that passes for prophecy which isn’t. Someone standing up in a church to tell someone else what they think God has in store for their life is not prophecy. Prophecy is about Jesus.

It's faith-building to see the prophecies of Jesus’ first appearing fulfilled because it proves God’s Word is true. And there’s a truckload of prophecies about Christ’s return and reign we’re about to see - there's nothing more exciting to those who love Jesus.

Jesus said, “Verily I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot (smallest letter of the Hebrew alphabet) or one tittle (decorative ‘horn’ on Hebrew script) shall in no way pass from the Law, till all is fulfilled” (Matthew 5:18). The Wonder has only just begun.
