The Ending

Jesus has many names and each one of them shines with His divine attributes. At His birth He came to us with the names, “Emmanuel (God with us), Wonderful (Miracle-worker), Counselor, The Mighty God, The Father of Eternity, The Prince of Peace.”

In Revelation, He adds… “I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, says the Lord, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty” (Revelation 1:8).  As “Alpha and Omega,” He is the God of the Nations. He divided them, gave them their languages, and will judge them. As “The Beginning and The Ending,” He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, who will oversee the ending in perfect justice just as His Word declares.

Since Jesus is eternal and outside of time, He is the God who always “Is,” yet who entered time to die for our sins and provide salvation. In this sense He “Was.” And the third part we have yet to experience, “Who is to come, the Almighty.”

“Almighty” is God’s covenant name with Israel. When Jesus returns and enters this world’s atmosphere the second time, evil will be flipped on its head. And if you want to know what’s going to take place, read the entire book of Revelation, earn yourself a blessing (“blessed is the one who reads”), and notice that Jesus signs off in the last chapter with… “I AM Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and The Last” (Rev. 22:13).

Yes, He will have the last Word. So follow the news but rest your heart in the truth that what we see is temporal, but the things to come are eternal. Our King is coming and blessed are those forever grafted to Him by faith.
