Let's Fix It

In our humanness we are a bit addicted to control. We assess a situation… figure out the easiest fix and proceed in our own power. We tell ourselves it’s just great problem-solving skills, but somewhere in this equation we must remember two things… God is often doing a greater work, and secondly, by stepping in and “fixing” everything, we rob God of His plans and His glory.
Abraham and Sarah thought they would “help” God bring about the promised son, and Hagar was given to Abraham to conceive his son, completely circumventing God’s plan. The conflict between Ishmael and Isaac continue to this very day.
Rebecca was so sure that the blessing of God shouldn’t go to her first born, but her second born, that she deceived her husband, and even worse yet, taught her son, Jacob, that lying and deception are acceptable ways to live. Not shocking at all that he struggled with these vices for years to come.
Imagine if we lived during Bible times… I would have grounded all of Joseph’s evil brothers for a solid year… then I would’ve stormed to Egypt, demanded my son back… then I’d come home feeling triumphant in my ability to “fix it all,” but… seven years later we’d all be dead of starvation.
If we were present when Jesus was being whipped and beaten, would we have banded together in a holy army and fought the aggressors? We likely would have prevented the crucifixion from even happening, but we would all die in our sins with no hope of forgiveness or Heaven.
We need to stop “fixing” everything. Let’s commit things to the Lord then leave it with Him. Patience is needed, as well as the understanding that “God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.” If He wants our help, He would make it clear to us.
Trust.
Surrender.
And prayerfully wait…
