God Is Still God

What a treasure of a truth to recognize that God never changes. We change all the time and our hearts are not trustworthy leaders. Our feelings fluctuate with circumstances. Our culture is changing for the worse on a regular basis. Institutions that once were honorable are now defiled and bought out. Judges and courts are no longer representations of safety from evil and givers of justice, but lawfare. Where does one go for Truth, stability, unchanging love, and unending commitment? God. Only God.
The missionary to China, Gladys Aylward, was leading just over a hundred orphans (ages 2-18) over a snowy mountain range to save their lives from war. Many of them had no shoes so they would wrap strips of cloth around their feet. The older children took turns carrying the younger children. But near the end of the hundred-day journey, weary, skinny, and utterly exhausted, they arrived at a river’s edge-now what was she supposed to do? Feeling overwhelmed and defeated, she started to cry. A young 8-year-old girl said to her that God parted the waters for Moses. Gladys responded, “Well I am NOT Moses!” The young girl responded, “But God is still God.”
Do we rest in His unchanging power? Or do we somehow agree with Gladys that God did great things for Old Testament and New Testament believers, but not us? The Bible tells us God is no respecter of persons. In fact, “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are perfect toward Him” (2 Chronicles 16:9).
Friends, we must ask Him for what we need. May we be bold with our prayers, expecting a mighty move of God. If we think we aren’t worth God’s time, that is a lie from the evil one, as he knows of His great power.
Through tears, Gladys prayed and men showed up with boats out of no where delivering them all to safety across the river. God is still God. Call upon Him.
