Jesus stood before Pilate, who asked Him, “Are you a king then? Jesus answered, “You have rightly said it, for I am a King. To this end I was born, and for this cause I came into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice” (John 18:37).

Truth is like gravity – it’s truth the world around. There’s no “your truth” and “my truth.” Truth is reality and it has power. The Bible says, “The lip of truth shall be established forever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.” God Himself guards truth, because He is truth. Truth can be denied, questioned, hated, and even cast down and trampled for a time… but it rises again, just like Jesus.

For those who want truth, Jesus IS Truth. All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Him (Colossians 2:4). For those who want to know the true God, “in Him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9). Jesus made an exclusive claim, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no one approaches the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

Many people are happy with the baby Jesus in the manger who didn’t speak a word… but reject the Jesus who spoke of Heaven and Hell, the narrow road vs. the wide road, how religion without truth and righteousness is futility, and how all people must repent or perish. Yet Jesus never spoke one word unlovingly. He spoke the truth “in love” and that makes all the difference. There is no one in the world who cares for your eternal well-being more than Jesus.

Jesus was born, lived, died, and rose again to “bear witness to the Truth.” And He’s returning to “sweep away the refuge of lies.” What joy is ours to walk with Him in truth.
