Eyes Of Faith

“The LORD looks from Heaven. He sees all the children of men… There is no king saved by the multitude of an army: a mighty man is not delivered by great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear Him, upon those that hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in the famine. Our soul waits for the LORD: He is our Help and our Shield. Our heart shall rejoice in Him because we have trusted in His holy name.” (Psalm 33:13-21)
What does faith look like to the Lord? It must look like lights shining upward through earth’s darkness. God is looking for hearts of faith to deliver. When Goliath and the Philistine army defied Israel, the eyes of all Israel were not on God, but on king Saul. There was none as handsome, tall, or strong, as he. But he turned out to be a man-pleaser, and a rebel toward God.
But God saw a heart of faith in a shepherd named David. David’s brothers slandered him, king Saul doubted him, and the enemy mocked him. But he slew Goliath with one stone, and God delivered Israel from all their enemies through him, for forty years. Today, God still offers the “sure mercies of David” - the confidence of eternal victory - through the Root and Offspring of David, Jesus Christ.
Many today have their eyes set on all the wrong things for victory: an articulate leader, a strong political party, or a strong military. But the only Hope for our countries is Jesus, who has already defeated the death and the devil for us at the Cross. God delights to honor faith in His Son wherever He finds it shining upward. May our eyes… “Ever be toward the Lord, for He shall pluck our feet out of the net.” (Psalm 25:15).
