The Faithful God

“Thou shalt not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14).

Adultery is a heart-breaking breach of faithfulness in marriage. Since marriage is an oath before God and man, this makes the breach even more serious. Jesus said, “Whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery already with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). The heart and eyes are where unfaithfulness begins, which includes the sin of pornography.

Spiritual adultery is just as real. It is claiming to love God while flirting with the world… “You adulterers and adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God” (James 4:4). No one can claim to love God while sinning with the world.

Our present generation treats salvation like the song, Thy Word, which states… “I will not forget Your love for me and yet, my heart forever is wandering.”  Try singing that on your wedding day to your fiancé and see how it goes. You can be sure the wedding would be called off.  This misunderstanding of salvation gives people who are living in spiritual adultery a false confidence that they are saved, when all the signs show they’re not.

True salvation is a transformation of heart that results in a love for Christ that will never die or wander. The gift of righteousness makes us partakers of His divine nature – and He is faithful and true. We are being changed into His likeness and there’s no going back into the world’s arms.

When Christ returns at the end of the Great Tribulation, He is called “Faithful and True.” And the people who ride with Him in glory, are ‘called, chosen, and faithful.’ That’s a marriage made in Heaven.
